RATIONALE

As a designer, I am always trying to blend the best of what I know with the unique requirements of each project.  The process is interactive and fundamentally evolutionary in its nature.  I value flexibility, clarity and integrity and embark on every design journey with equal measure of humility and confidence.

Buildings that are beautiful, sustainable and intimately empathetic to their ‘place’ and purpose is my primary interest. They are of necessity site specific, respectful of existing inhabitants (flora & fauna) and geographical features; and where possible, “sit lightly on the earth” (Glen Murcett).

INSPIREDBY

Inspired by nature; its controlled chaos, its random placement, its sense of perfect balance; the emptiness of the nullabor desert, the denseness of a QLD rainforest; the heat of the tropics, the icy cold of the VIC mountains.  Inspired by the 100 ft transparent gum tree, its capacity to regenerate following the destructive forces of nature and human development, and its capacity to sooth but also frighten.  The colours, from the deep blues of the southern ocean to the bright greens of tropical ocean, the greys, greens, yellows and reds of our native forest, the vastness of our blue skies.  The shapes, from the gentle curve of a leaf to the sharp edge of a rock.

Also inspired by humanity and our vast array of emotions, our ability to manufacture a straight line, to imagine, dream, visualise and experiment.
