DOBBINdesign

When I was 8, I watched a house being built across the road from our home.  I had never seen a house being built in our small wheatbelt town before, they were usually transportable homes…bought in on trucks and stumped on site.  Fascinated by the activity and process, I watched. After school I would go to the building site and try to figure out what was going on; from the concrete pad with its plumbing pipes coming out in strange places; the jarrah stud framed walls outlining rooms; the obvious door ways showing the bathroom, laundry and kitchen areas; then roof frames and tiles, outside cladding, windows doors etc. I was fascinated, so  I asked Dad, "how do you get to build houses?", he replied, “become a builder or an architect..."  So that was what I wanted to be when I grew up.
